As you explore the Wind River Indian Reservation, keep an eye out for references to Chief Washakie, one of the most revered leaders of his time. He championed traditional practices like the Sun Dance ceremony, signed the Fort Bridger Treaties of 1863 and 1868 (which established the Wind River Indian Reservation) and worked tirelessly to protect his people and their interests.
